Person of the Year: You
Yes, you. You control the Information Age. Welcome to your world.
By LEV GROSSMAN
The "Great Man" theory of history is usually attributed to the Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle, who wrote that "the history of the world is but the biography of great men." He believed that it is the few, the powerful and the famous who shape our collective destiny as a species. That theory took a serious beating this year.
To be sure, there are individuals we could blame for the many painful and disturbing things that happened in 2006. The conflict in Iraq only got bloodier and more entrenched. A vicious skirmish erupted between Israel and Lebanon. A war dragged on in Sudan. A tin-pot dictator in North Korea got the Bomb, and the President of Iran wants to go nuclear too. Meanwhile nobody fixed global warming, and Sony didn't make enough PlayStation3s.
But look at 2006 through a different lens and you'll see another story, one that isn't about conflict or great men. It's a story about community and collaboration on a scale never seen before. It's about the cosmic compendium of knowledge Wikipedia and the million-channel people's network YouTube and the online metropolis MySpace. It's about the many wresting power from the few and helping one another for nothing and how that will not only change the world, but also change the way the world changes.
The tool that makes this possible is the World Wide Web. Not the Web that Tim Berners-Lee hacked together (15 years ago, according to Wikipedia) as a way for scientists to share research. It's not even the overhyped dotcom Web of the late 1990s. The new Web is a very different thing. It's a tool for bringing together the small contributions of millions of people and making them matter. Silicon Valley consultants call it Web 2.0, as if it were a new version of some old software. But it's really a revolution.
And we are so ready for it. We're ready to balance our diet of predigested news with raw feeds from Baghdad and Boston and Beijing. You can learn more about how Americans live just by looking at the backgrounds of YouTube videos—those rumpled bedrooms and toy-strewn basement rec rooms—than you could from 1,000 hours of network television.
And we didn't just watch, we also worked. Like crazy. We made Facebook profiles and Second Life avatars and reviewed books at Amazon and recorded podcasts. We blogged about our candidates losing and wrote songs about getting dumped. We camcordered bombing runs and built open-source software.
America loves its solitary geniuses—its Einsteins, its Edisons, its Jobses—but those lonely dreamers may have to learn to play with others. Car companies are running open design contests. Reuters is carrying blog postings alongside its regular news feed. Microsoft is working overtime to fend off user-created Linux. We're looking at an explosion of productivity and innovation, and it's just getting started, as millions of minds that would otherwise have drowned in obscurity get backhauled into the global intellectual economy.
Who are these people? Seriously, who actually sits down after a long day at work and says, I'm not going to watch Lost tonight. I'm going to turn on my computer and make a movie starring my pet iguana? I'm going to mash up 50 Cent's vocals with Queen's instrumentals? I'm going to blog about my state of mind or the state of the nation or the steak-frites at the new bistro down the street? Who has that time and that energy and that passion?
The answer is, you do. And for seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own game, TIME's Person of the Year for 2006 is you.
Sure, it's a mistake to romanticize all this any more than is strictly necessary. Web 2.0 harnesses the stupidity of crowds as well as its wisdom. Some of the comments on YouTube make you weep for the future of humanity just for the spelling alone, never mind the obscenity and the naked hatred.
But that's what makes all this interesting. Web 2.0 is a massive social experiment, and like any experiment worth trying, it could fail. There's no road map for how an organism that's not a bacterium lives and works together on this planet in numbers in excess of 6 billion. But 2006 gave us some ideas. This is an opportunity to build a new kind of international understanding, not politician to politician, great man to great man, but citizen to citizen, person to person. It's a chance for people to look at a computer screen and really, genuinely wonder who's out there looking back at them. Go on. Tell us you're not just a little bit curious.

I got to hear from Surach that my song "Paila Paila ma" meaning (In every steps ) in English has been moved for recording and is in queue. Also the name of the album is going to be the same as the title of the song - "Paila Paila ma". Also another thing it's going to be recorded at one of the best studios and its music video is also going to be made.
I must think now that I am really quite good and have some sorts of potential on me. This message I first gave to my father who had just come today to my room from Pokhara and got a first Congratulations for that.
This will be a good encouragement for "Sragsama" and my upcoming literary works both in Nepali and English.
I am very happy though I have some more to be upset.

Am feeling really bad about the action G. took to me. I must tell my journal atleast this. I wasnt that much worst for this and had a dream to be one day a M. but G. did such to me that I do not have any idea to think more.
I got a lesson from this. A good lesson that , it's not good to do any sorts of wrong deeds.Neither of them, its very bad to cheat in any means and any of those ways.
I am sorry to myself.

I got this message from my frien Shekhar Shrestha today and felt the same as the original message
forwarder of this message Mr Varghese. Lets promise for the same and pray as he does
Must See & Read Last Photo.
This not comes to you as a surprise,
But it's real we have them living around us and in our neighborhood today, we can change it with prayers, and always lending a helping hand to those in need.
Don't keep this email to your self, forward it to your friends, so our friends and all people will thank God for food and water that they already have.
This is one more reason why we have to thank God for the food that we can have easily.
But in the otherhand....ironicly, we still waste the
food that we buy
I feel very GRATEFUL for what I have today.......
We are so Blessed for the wonderful works of God's hand in our life today, just think of this ..............
"I felt very fortunate to live in this part of the world. I promise I will never waste my food no matter how bad it can taste and how full I may be. I promise not to waste water. I pray that this little boy be alleviated from his suffering.
I pray that we will be more sensitive towards the suffering in the world around us and not be blinded by our own selfish nature and interests. I hope this picture will always serve as a reminder to us about how fortunate we are and that we must never ever take things for granted.
Think & look at this...when you complain about your food and the food we waste daily..." MAY ALL HUMAN BEINGS BE FREE FROM SUFFERING!!!!
Please don't break this, keep on forwarding it to all our friends. On this good day, let's make a prayer for the suffering in any place around the globe and send this friendly reminder to others.
PLEASE,
MY GREAT FREINDS DON'T BREAK THIS CHAIN, KINDLY SEND IT TO SOMEONE YOU LOVE, TO ENABLE HIM OR HER SEE WHAT GOD HAS DONE IN HIS/HER LIFE TODAY,TO COMPARE WITH THIS KIDS.

Father and Son
Date: 14th November 2006
What i had seen today is really sharable. I teach in a house as a home tutor and it has passed around 4 months since i had started teaching them. Today my student came home late and was in a cyber for 2 hours without informing home . The condition provided to him was that he could not go to a internet surfing cafe without any PG.
He came 3 hours late after the school goes off.
Before he had arrived there had already become an environment of doubts and confusions , where had the guy been and what has his condition been.
When he had arrived his father had called at some places and asked his friends ..Four of his friends were missing....
Just then when his father was on a way to school he got a call from home that his son has arrived.. This was then the incident i wanted to share.
He came with a face reddish and with his fist closed , his legs lifted up ready to do what the boy deserved and he did also....
I took the boy with me and tried to stop the father.. The father wasn't wrong and the boy was neither the wrong that had prevailed was the misunderstanding ,the fatherhood and the sonhood.
I tried to cool the temper and lastly instructed to the boy ( he was my student too..)
And now i knew the value and the importance how much a father gives to his child. Its the point that everyone must know your parents are never wrong and u should not support your friends blindly cause no one sees the wrongs in their friends and circle.. Its the other who should show the right way....
Thanks ...
